Whether you are an Adam Curtis fan or not, what cannot be argued is the unique style of his films. Through the use of stock footage only, he weaves grand narratives about history, politics, psychology and war that leave a lasting impression.

Russia 1985-1999: TraumaZone

What it felt like to live through the collapse of communism and democracy. A series of films by Adam Curtis.

Probably because it's the latest and the freshest in my mind, but this series of films on the downfall of the USSR and the failure of democracy in Russia was truly incredible. Forgoing the usual narration by Curtis himself and the lack of a soundtrack, the (incredible) stock footage really comes to the fore, which made the whole series an almost vicarious experience. I certainly felt the pain, anguish and loss of hope that the Russian people felt, woefully ignored by the West, the price of which we are paying now.
